Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation on executive functions (memory, attention, problem solving and cognitive flexibility) in stimulant substance users (Methamphetamine) (methamphetamine). The research was quasi-experimental with a pre-test-posttest design with control and follow-up groups. The statistical population of this research included all the male methamphetamine users who referred to psychotherapy and psychiatric centers in Tehran. based on the psychiatrist's diagnosis, 30 clients with methamphetamine abuse were selected by purposeful sampling and were randomly replaced in an experimental group (15 people) and a control group (15 people). The data collection tools included Tower of London test, Stroop test, Farakhna subscale test of reverse digits calling subscale Wechsler adult intelligence scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS-26 software and statistical tests of analysis of variance with repeated measurements and post hoc tests. Findings showed that cognitive rehabilitation has an effect on the executive functions of memory, attention, problem solving and cognitive flexibility in men suffering from methamphetamine abuse (P<0.01). Based on the findings of the research, it can be concluded that cognitive rehabilitation can be effective in strengthening the executive functions of clients suffering from methamphetamine abuse.
