The Effectiveness of Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy on Cognitive Emotion Regulation in Students with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy on reducing syndrome in female students with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Method: This research was quasi-experimental and its design was had two groups with three stages of pre-test, post-test and 11-month follow-up. The statistical population included all students with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in the high school seventh and eighth grades of the first year of public schools in Isfahan, using cluster sampling method Forty students with post-traumatic stress disorder were selected as a sample and after mating in pairs on the basis of age, education, symptom severity and grade point average were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Research tools were Clinical interview of post-traumatic stress disorder based on 5-DSM and Children's Revised Impact of Event Scale (CRIES- 8- R). analysis of variance with repeated measurement was used to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference between factor scores (pre-test, post-test and follow-up) in the scores of PTSD syndrome (0/001> P), avoidance (P <0.019) and the score of intrusive thoughts (P <0.0011). But there was no significant difference between the average scores of PTSD syndrome, avoidance and intrusive thoughts of in the post-test stage and follow-up test.
Conclusion: In general, trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy has been effective in reducing the scores of post-traumatic stress disorder syndrome, avoidance and intrusive thoughts and can be used in medical centers.
