Abstract

With regard to relationship of construal levels due to perceived psychological distance with individuals' behavior, it seems that this variable is also related to high-risk behaviors. The aim of this research was to predict high-risk behaviors related to COVID-19 based on construal levels theory in Iranian people. The statistical population of this study was all individuals over 15 years old who had the Internet using knowledge. Among them by using convenience method sampling, 154 individuals were selected and fulfilled the Vallacher's behavior identification and High-Risk Behaviors questionnaires. Then, the data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed using the chi-square method. The findings of this study showed that people who had objective construal levels were less likely to engage in COVID-19 high-risk behaviors than those with abstract construal levels. However, the observed difference was not statistically significant. According to the results, it can be said that construal levels are related to high-risk behaviors but to obtain meaningful and more accurate results, more research is needed and the results can be explained according to the cultural tendency of Iranians for having abstract thinking.
